TERRY DAVIES – CERAMICS

Ceramic artist Terry Davies was born in the U.K. Following an extensive training in the historic Leach tradition, he travelled extensively on a voyage of discovery and study, taking him to some of the world’s greatest ceramic centres . He settled in Tuscany 20 years ago, his pottery studio is located on a hilltop overlooking Certaldo. His experimental approach to texture and form has led to many international awards and exhibitions, with his ‘pelle d’elefante’ technique receiving much praise. The look and feel of this distinct finish is that of cracked or burnt earth. Davies shares his passion for ceramic art with the public in the form of large-scale experimental kiln firings often with recycled materials, such as glass bottles, paper, which take place in piazzas around Italy, drawing crowds in the thousands to the main squares of Lucca, San Gimignano Firenze, and Faenza. These unique cultural events are an alchemic fusion of earth, water, fire and air.

KACPER KOWALSKI – PHOTOGRAPHY

Kacper Kowalski, a Polish artist who lives and works in Gdynia, Poland. Having previously worked in architecture, Kowalski chose to devote himself entirely to flying and photography. As both a pilot and photographer, he takes meticulously detailed aerial pictures of diverse natural and urban environments. His captivating images of forests, fields, lakes and open cou countryside trace industrial damage and the changing pattern of the earth. His evocative photography and striking drawings have received numerous awards, including the World Press Photo award (2009, 2014, 2015), the Picture of the Year International POYi award (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016), and many others. His first photography book, “Side Effects” was published in 2014 and won the prestigious Best Photography Book Award in the Picture of the Year co contest. CARLO ROMITI – PAINTING

Italian artist Carlo Romiti, was born in Castelfiorentino and graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. He lives in the countryside between San Gimignano and Volterra where the ‘terra’ provides the material behind his striking contemporary works. Carlo’s thought-provoking works are created using the natural colours offered by the chromatic array of the soils, meticulously chosen to represent the land where he lives and works. Romiti’s powerful and fervent pieces are created using earth he collects from the land where he lives. His depictions of landscapes and animals are his means to rediscovering the ancestral pa part that is within everyone. A director of a theatre workshop at the Visual Arts Centre in Certaldo since1987, Romiti has collaborated in the publication of texts and arts research at the Facoltà di Magistero at the University of Florence. He also teaches painting techniques for the Educational Departments of the Uffizi and the Prehistoric museum in Florence.

“BALLET” TADEUSZ NIESCIER PHOTOGRAPHY ART EXHIBITION | CASOLE D’ELSA | JUNE – OCTOBER 2017

BALLET | TADEUSZ NIESCIER PHOTOGRAPHY – art exhibition curated by Olga Niescier
JUNE – OCTOBER 2017, OPEN DAILY 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
CASOLE D’ELSA, PIAZZA LUCHETTI & PALAZZO COMUNALE

Tadeusz Niescier is a renowned Polish painter and photographer. He lives and creates in the northeast landscapes of Podlasie. His lifelong artistic study is based on the close observation of the simplest elements of plants and flowers bringing the examination of detail to almost abstract expression. His paintings have been exhibited in Poland, Germany, USA. Niescier is dedicated to teaching art and photography in various universities. Recently, his passion turned towards photography resulting in surprising portraits of the tiniest elements of plants in large scale, giving them new meaning, visual metaphors of cosmic infinities as well as human emotions. Extracted from their natural state, often arid from the passage of time, these fragments of nature reveal incredible richness of textures and details. In their faded abstract beauty, abundant and delicate, they capture frozen movements of life, suspended in space, weightless.

To see a world in a grain of sand and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour.” – William Blake

The Transcendent Tree exhibition is an encounter of three artists, each of them working with different techniques: drawing, photography and painting. Their art depicts the beauty and energy of trees, as well as their poetic symbolism of power, wisdom and origins of life. The exhibition is a dialogue of artistic visions, impressions and interpretations of the tree figure; located in the natural context of a Tuscan landscape, it pays homage to our silent magnificent companions.

“A tree says: A kernel is hidden in me, a spark, a thought, I am life from eternal life… I was made to form and reveal the eternal in my smallest special detail. A tree says: My strength is trust. I live out the secret of my seed to the very end, and I care for nothing else… I trust that God is in me. I trust that my labor is holy. Out of this trust I live.” – Hermann Hesse

ANDREA COLLESANO – DRAWING

Andrea Collesano, a young Italian artist, working with ink drawing and bronze sculpture. He obtained the artistic diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence. Inspired by the ancient, the lost, and old symbolic and naturalistic engravings he tries to recreate the mythological world that dwells within his mind. The natural world: sea, animals and plant kingdoms are the main source of inspiration for his dreamlike representations undertaken with almost scientific, obsessive accuracy to detail. Collesano lives and works in Tuscany, in the seaside town of Forte dei Marmi. He collaborates with prestigious international galleries, among them Barbara Paci Art Gallery in Pietrasanta, an Italian center of excellent art.

DUCCIO NACCI – PHOTOGRAPHY

Duccio Nacci, an Italian photographer, living and working in San Gimignano. He is renowned for capturing within his poetic images the beauty of Tuscany – silent landscapes where the human person, even though invisible, is always present and leads us towards a melancholic kind of joy. Since 1997 he has illustrated catalogues and books in collaboration with several national and international magazines (Condé Nast, Rusconi, Mondatori and others). Nacci has published several books and held exhibitions throughout Italy. His own photography gallery “La Bottega del Sale” is located in the center of San Gimignano. Duccio plays a key role within the Vitalità Cultural Assocation and its’connections within the Tuscany.

OLGA NIESCIER – PAINTING

Olga Niescier, is a Polish born artist, designer and curator. She obtained her master’s degree in Fine Arts and Fashion Design in the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz and in Fashion Design at the Polimoda Institute in Florence. Olga has pursued intense artistic activity since 2001, integrating art and design: painting, fashion, interior decor, photography, graphics and theatre. Since 2013 Niescier has regularly exhibited her artworks in some of the most charming locations in Tuscany: Florence, Bagno Vignoni, Pietrasanta and San Gimignano, where Olga lives and creates. Niescier’s painting work is a meditative exploration of nature’s structures and rhythms, an insight into botanical micro-universes, a personal encounter with Zen and abstract expressionism.

CELEBRATING THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE VITALITÀ CULTURAL ASSOCIATION – A SYMBIOSIS OF CONTEMPORARY ART AND NATURE THROUGHOUT TUSCANY

We are proud to present a new chapter of Vitalità – our new Cultural Association.

Inspired by the deep-rooted intrinsic connection between art and nature, the Vitalità Cultural Association’s mission is to promote art which re-evaluates and brings to the foreground human awareness, experiences and the connection with nature. This unheard voice within contemporary art aims to reunite the artist and the public in observation, contemplation, and exploration of the living world.

The Vitalità association focuses on encouraging arts’ path into nature by exploring the mystery of existence through semiotic and formal studies and interpretations of diverse life forms. The association is formed of artists and art promoters who have a shared interest in the biological, emotional and spiritual connections between plant, animal and human.

The Vitalità Cultural Association was formed in the heart of Tuscany where it’s unique landscapes nurture creativity in many forms. Vitalità’s activities include: the organisation of exhibitions and events, the curation of publications and communications and the ongoing development of artistic and cultural networking. Based within the medieval hilltop town of San Gimignano a recognised Unesco Heritage site, in 2017 Vitalità will be hosting several exhibitions and cultural events both at its gallery in Piazza Sant’ Agostino and also at its countryside gallery located at the historic estate of Borgo Pignano near Volterra, as well as other picturesque locations of Tuscany.

The Vitalità Cultural Association also supports and communicates the excellence of organic wine and food from the Tuscan region. The Association’s project, Contemporary Wine promotes initiatives and production methods that protect and enhance the natural eco-balance of Tuscany’s unique landscape. Vitalità and Contemporary Wine events combine gastronomy, oenology, art and culture, providing a harmonious environment where contemporary winemakers, local food producers and creative artists come together in some of Tuscany’s most beautiful locations.

Details of the Vitalità Cultural Association’s events and exhibitions can be found at: www.vitalitart.it
